A Toast to Exceller

September 27, 2008, marked the 30th Anniversary of Exceller’s win over Seattle Slew and Affirmed in the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park . He is the only horse to ever beat two Triple Crown winners in one race and this accomplishment is unlikely to ever be duplicated.

In his honor, The Exceller Fund celebrated this historic event by promoting the first ever, “A Toast to Exceller” at racetracks across the country. Recognition of this historic event was used to enhance awareness of The Exceller Fund and local organizations that promote Thoroughbred adoption and retirement. On that day, glasses all over the country were filled with an “Excellerator”, the signature drink of “A Toast to Exceller”.

In 2010, the event was a bit more localized and on a much smaller scale. The idea was still the same, to draw attention to The Exceller Fund and the issue of race horses needing second careers or retirement following their careers at the track. We were delighted to have Woodford Reserve as the official 2010 sponsor of the “Excellerator”. The event was held at WinStar Farm in Versailles, KY at the Stallion Pavilion and was a huge success. We are grateful to WinStar Farm for their generosity and continuing support of our mission.

There will be future “A Toast to Exceller” events. In the meantime, we encourage you to raise your glass and toast Exceller, not only for his accomplishments on the track, but for the inspiration he has provided to save so many other Thoroughbreds.

Cheers!
