Sal has learned to "TWITTER!"
Prospector's Sally was
purchased in 2004 by the Exceller Fund just days before being loaded on
a trailer to be taken to Canada for slaughter. Sal was lucky that he
was noticed by a woman that knew about Exceller and contacted us to
save this war horse standing in two feet of muck in the "kill" pen. We
later learned that Sal had been a lesson horse after his racing career,
but ending up at auction and being purchased by the "meat man."
Sal is a 17h chestnut that has a little white on his legs and face that
make him stand out. He is very calm, relaxed and very well behaved. He
is Excellent for the vet and farrier. He does bear some racetrack
"bling" on his legs - the marks of pinfiring can clearly be seen on his
two front legs. Sal has arthritis in his hocks but gets along fine on
24 hour turnout. He may be okay to carry a light rider on a lead line
in ring, but he is not suitable for any strenuous riding.
Sal has travelled from New York to Southern Illinois, and is now
being fostered in Oklahoma, near Tulsa. His current foster describes
him as an "old fashioned raw-boned" Thoroughbred who is incredibly
sweet.
UPDATE: February 2008 - Prospector Sally is being fostered at
the American Legion Childrens Home in north central Oklahoma where he
now has a career as a therapy horse. His new foster says he is amazing
with the kids and is very patient with them - soaking up their
attention. Way to go Sal!
