Toast to Exceller

It has been 35 years since Exceller flew down the stretch at Belmont Park to win the 1978 Jockey Club Gold Cup, defeating two Triple Crown champions, Seattle Slew and Affirmed.

The Exceller Fund invites you to join them on September 28, 2013, as they celebrate with a  Toast to Exceller on Super Saturday at Belmont Park.  The charity will be promoting their membership drive with the opportunity to own part of a racehorse (a filly by Kitten’s Joy), without the associated expense, compliments of leading New York trainer, Gary Contessa.  The selected member will be eligible to receive 10% of the earnings of the potential equine star.   Details on their website: www.excellerfund.org

“We are toasting all of Exceller’s accomplishments,” Nicole Smith, Volunteer Executive Director commented, “not only his amazing racing career, but everything he has done for Thoroughbred retirement and aftercare.”

Exceller’s death in a slaughterhouse acted as the catalyst of awareness about the plight of so many racehorses, instigating the start of many aftercare organizations.  Racing fans formed The Exceller Fund to “Provide a Future Beyond the Finish Line” for Thoroughbred racehorses and since its formation have helped hundreds of horses.  A primary focus of the charity has become the Racing Warriors; those unsung heroes of racing that have spent years on the track.  Permanent retirement is offered to those that are not deemed suitable as riding horses for the adoption program.

Join The Exceller Fund as they honor the memory of Exceller, his place in racing history and the legacy he leaves behind.
