A Very Happy Irish Birthday to The Exceller Fund's Bayamo!

Bayamo - Foaled March 17, 1999 in Ireland

Luck doesn't always have everything to do with it; although Irish bred Bayamo did hit the jackpot.  Not every racehorse has the kind of people in their life that Bayamo had when a racing career comes to an abrupt end due to a serious injury. A Grade II stakes winner with over $300,000 in earnings in only 11 starts, his former owners saw to it that this "big bruiser" (as he is affectionately known as by TEF volunteers) was taken care of in his retirement and placed him in our care to ensure his safety.

At 17 hands tall (and an avid hater of oral paste and medications of all types) he is a friendly, but opinionated kind of guy.   "Bay Bay" is one of those horses that you could put in a paddock wrapped in bubble wrap and he'd still come in with a new bump or cut somewhere on him... it never fails.  Knock on wood it's never anything serious, it’s just part of doing business with him.  He plays just as hard as he raced and it is no wonder this tough guy had an amazing racing career.
