Good Choice is a lovely mare that came to us from a nutritional study when it came to an end. From the time she walked off the trailer she has been nothing but a perfect lady. She neck reins, spins, goes under English tack, (now) does ground poles and will soon be tried over low cross rails. She also goes on the trail without any issue other than an occasional glace. It looks like she'll have a forever home in her very near future as there is already someone in love with her as much as we are! Therefore, she is not yet being made available for adoption, but if anything falls through, we'll be sure to let you know!
UPDATE: October 2010 - Good Choice (Sophie) has found her forever home!! Her new mom says she has finally found the horse she has always wanted. Sophie and her new mom have started Eventing and are doing very well. As you can see in the pictures, Sophie is a beautiful mover and loves her new life.
UPDATE: September 2011 - Unfortunately, Good Choice is now in need of a new home. She fractured her splint bone back in April, which has now healed, but when she got back into work, she was mildly intermittently lame on her right front. Further diagnostics proved that she has mild navicular changes. Currently she is wearing wedge shoes and has had one injection to her coffin joint, which has kept her completely sound. Vets have advised that she is probably okay to continue jumping small obstacles, but we agree with her former adopter that it is in Good Choice's best interest to "preserve her soundness" as long as possible and find her a less strenuous career than eventing. This breaks our heart as this mares absolutely loves to jump. This is what her previous adopter had to say about her:
"She
is an AMAZING, athletic mare. She raced only twice, then evented through
Training (not with me but earlier in her life), has been a broodmare,
and in the year I've had her she has carted me through some lower level
events. I am so sad to come to this decision, but I think it's the best
thing to do for her. She is a very energetic horse, but very correctly
trained and is easy to ride if you "push the right buttons". Her canter
is the best I've ever ridden...slow and like a rocking horse and so
amazing. She's a lot of fun on trails, loves to gallop, neck reins, and
is easy to get along with otherwise. She has a lot of go but will stop
just with your seat. She's got a soft mouth, is sensitive to aids, and
is very forward thinking (without being crazy). I just want her to have a good home and
have her own "person". She is so willing and tries really hard to figure
out what's being asked of her. She could potentially be a lesson horse
for intermediate/advanced riders, she's a great teacher as far as she'll
do what's being asked but only if you ask right."
UPDATE: Good Choice has found another great home in KY. She is fitting in very well as a companion to another mare, that quickly became her new best bud. We are very excited for her!
