Bought from the same sale in Texas as her
friend Round the Rosie, Franconia is a mare with decent breeding and
modest produce records. Our $600 bid was the second and final bid on
her. She is a large and pretty bay, by Top Command (sire of filly Triple
Crown winner Mom’s Command), out of Madam Sublime, by Maribeau. She
has Bold Ruler on her sire's side and Ribot on her dam's side. She
produced two very modest winners, her highest-earning offspring earning
$8,718.
Franconia lives together with Rosie at
Rerun in Kentucky. Together they checked out their new pasture and took
turns rolling in the dirt.
"Frankie" is adoptable and
will remain in Kentucky while we look for a caring, permanent home for
her.
Update -- August
2001 Rosie and Frankie are doing great and have been enjoying
the cooler weather in Kentucky. Frankie is the most popular horse
at the farm - all the horses want to be her best friend! A young
gelding named Real Ghazi is very attached to Frankie and sulks when
she is not with him. The two girls do not spend as much time with
each other as they once did but there is no question that they are both
deeply attached. A few months ago, when Rosie was ill and laying
down, Frankie stood over her the entire time. Luckily, it was
nothing serious but her buddy was by her side the whole time.
When Rosie colicked a year ago, Frankie did not leave her side then
either.
Update -- July 2006
Frankie is doing great and is the "Queen" of the pasture at New Hope
Farm in Kentucky along with her pasture mates Almata and Franchised.
UPDATE: January 2007: Frankie continues to rule the roost at
New Hope Farm. While two of her buddies, Almata and Franchised had some
issues that are not surprising given their ages, Frankie continues to
be the "Energizer Bunny" and keeps going, and going, and going!
