Country Warrior came to the attention of The Exceller Fund via Tressa O'Neill in Nebraska.  Tressa and her mother, June have been involved with off the track Thoroughbred rescue and retirement for years.  Tressa had been following Country Warrior since 2007 when he showed up on the Nebraska racing circuit at age eight.

Prior to racing in Nebraska, Country Warrior was a familiar face at Prairie Meadows in Iowa, as he is an Iowa bred.  His breeder, Okoboji Racing Stable owned and raced him in his early racing career, earning approximately $134,162.  Maggi Moss claimed Country Warrior for $30,000 from Okoboji,  Country Warrior earned $110,000 for Maggi before she lost him for a $25,000 tag.  He was claimed a few more times, including Claim To Fame Stable who won four races in a row with him before losing him.

Country Warrior was given to The Exceller Fund by his owner and was transported from the track at Columbus, Nebraska to the O'Neill farm in September 2009.  He was moved to Land Ho Stable in Bagdad, Kentucky in November 2009 and then to a retirement farm in Missouri in early April 2011.

Country Warrior was thin and a bit shy and reluctant to be handled when he first arrived but he quickly settled into his new home well and has really blossomed.  He is still a little shy but is quite the gentleman and has great barn manners.  He has put on weight and seems to be happy with his herd.
