In the fall of 2007, a three year old colt named Continuation was in the often too familiar dilemma... Racing at Remington Park, he had sustained an injury (a non-displaced slab fracture) and was in need of immediate placement off the track or he would be sent to the local weekly livestock auction, where his future would indeed be grim.
An Oklahoma thoroughbred group stepped in to keep him from going to the auction, but they required assistance with rehabilitation and could not offer long term placement. Through The Exceller Fund, Continuation is getting the appropriate rehab and the prognosis is excellent for his recovery. Upon learning of his situation, his breeder graciously offered to sponsor him during his rehabilitation.
UPDATE: Continuation has recovered from his knee surgery well. He still has a bit of a lump on the knee at the surgery site which is quite common. He also has an old scar and thickening of a pastern from an injury as a yearling, which has only been a cosmetic issue. While he is sound at this point, it has been recommended by his surgeon that he probably is not suited for jumping.
Continuation has also been gelded, but he will require expert training and handling. He is quite the character and loves attention. He is turned out with a small herd, which includes two mares that are "his girls". He has lightened in color and filled out nicely since coming off of the track.
UPDATE: Continuation continues to rule the roost and adores the girls, including his caretaker! He has also graduated into the main herd and is now enjoying roaming (sometimes romping on) the larger pastures with his new friends.
